Psychopharmacology

Psychopharmacology consists of treating mental disorders and illnesses with medications. There are numerous types of medications that can help alleviate bothersome symptoms of depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, anxiety, panic attacks, sleep disturbances, and other disorders.

At Alpha Behavioral Care, we have been dissatisfied with the present state of the field. Using conventional treatment, medications only seem to successfully help 65% of the individuals who take them. However, we are able to increase the success rate to 80% plus with the use of rEEG technology. It is evident that the field is quite complex and requires medical professionals to continuously update and research the field in order to provide state-of-the-art effective treatment to patients. At Alpha Behavioral Care, our psychiatrists will use the newest scientific methods to make sure that your treatment is quick and effective.

Your treatment may include the use of the following psychopharmacology:

Antidepressants to fight depression. You do not have to battle the blues alone.

  • Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs)
  • Tricyclic antidepressants
  • Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOIs)
  • Anxiolytics to fight panic and anxiety
  • Serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs)
  • Noradrenergic and specific serotonergic antidepressants (NaSSAs)
  • Norepinephrine (noradrenaline) reuptake inhibitors (NRIs)
  • Norepinephrine-dopamine reuptake inhibitors (NDRIs)
  • Augmenter drugs

Benzodiazepines

  • Serotonin 1A agonists
  • Barbiturates

Medications to treat Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder

  • Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs)
  • Tricyclic antidepressants
  • Atypical Antipsychotics

Though particular drugs are prescribed for specific symptoms or syndromes, they are usually not specific to the treatment of any single mental disorder. Because of their ability to modify the behavior of many patients, anti-psychotic, anti-anxiety, and anti-depressant agents have greatly affected the treatment of patients, enabling many individuals to lead relatively normal lives outside of the hospital.

At Alpha Behavioral Care, our psychiatrists are medical doctors trained in psychopharmacology and pharmacotherapy. This means that we are thoroughly knowledgeable about and trained to prescribe medications used to alleviate bothersome and troublesome symptoms. We stay updated on the newest procedures and medications and use the newest technology available to help our patients. Currently, we are using the Referenced Electroencephalogram (rEEG) to assist us in choosing medications that will help treat you successfully.
